Homeland Security Expert to Run Brenau's New Fairburn Campus
Retired U.S. Army Col. Andrew J. Jurchenko, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and internationally recognized anti-terrorism expert and criminal justice educator, has assumed his new post as director of Brenau University's South Atlanta campus in Fairburn, Ga.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Jurchenko retired from the Army after more than 30 years of active duty. His military experience includes service as an officer in both the infantry and the military police in the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions and with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. His decorations include the Legion of Merit and three "valor" medals - the Bronze Star, the Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
A highlight of his military experience includes dealing with security issues affecting the White House during three presidential administrations. Most recently he was chair of the Human Services Department as well as a criminal justice instructor at Griffin Technical College in Griffin, Ga.
He also was an instructor at the Army's Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. The graduate of John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio, has an undergraduate degree in English and journalism; he holds master's degrees in management and human resources management from Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.
"Andy Jurchenko's world view and outstanding personal and profession experiences will be an amazing asset for Brenau University," said David Barnett, associate vice president for regional studies at the Gainesville, Ga.-based university. "Having him both as adjunct faculty and in an administrative role in Fairburn should give our newest campus a good, running start."
Although at Brenau Jurchenko will initially be teaching undergraduate business management courses on the Fairburn campus, the self-described "bomb technician who still has all his fingers" is an expert in homeland security matters and anti-terrorism - particularly in matters in which those issues intersect with constitutional law issues, including search and seizure, use of deadly force and interrogation techniques. Jurchenko is currently licensed as an instructor with Georgia's Peace Officers Standards and Training organization and an Atlanta area representative to the FBI's local Joint Terrorism Taskforce. In addition to extensive certifications, licenses and peer review publication credits of his resume, Jurchenko also is an executive board member for the American College of Forensic Examiners International's unit that certifies Homeland Security professionals and a member of the director of Homeland Security's advisory board.
"I've led an interesting life, but I'm not quite ready to quit just yet," said Jurchenko. "I am looking forward to the challenges of helping to start a new campus for Brenau in this fast-growing area."

Brenau's Newest Addition in Fairburn
Brenau University prepares students to live extraordinary lives.
Brenau University brings its mission and programs to Fairburn by establishing a campus to serve the South Atlanta region. Brenau University ultimately will offer programs in a variety of academic areas at this location to prepare students for professional careers.
Two degree programs offered through the School of Business are available immediately for student enrollment. Brenau University is accepting applications for the Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership now. The programs are designed for students who have earned an associate degree from an accredited college or are transferring from other colleges or universities where a bachelor or associate degree was started but not completed.
The Bachelor of Business Administration degree is designed to provide students the broadest possible background in the functional areas of business. In addition to the business core, students take six electives. Electives may be spread over all the areas of business, organizational leadership and human resource management or concentrated in one area. This provides students maximum flexibility in scheduling as well as preparing for a career path.
The Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership is an interdisciplinary program designed for students interested in not for profit organizations, education or government. The focus of the program is on leadership and people management skills.
Are you ready to apply for one of the programs right away? Get started today by visiting www.brenau.edu and selecting the Apply button to complete an online application for admission. This gorgeous facility is scheduled to begin holding Evening and Weekend College classes for Business and Organizational Leadership students this August. We will work in conjunction with Georgia Military College's Fairburn facility in order to provide the best possible opportunities for students in the area.
